On February 16, 2016, Yext announced that Google was being added to the Yext Network. For any small business or Digital Marketing firm that uses Yext power listings, this is a win-win situation. Most small businesses do not have time or adequate staff to keep up with social media. This in itself is detrimental to the small business. Posting on social media and getting your customers to offer comments about your business and services can offer a handy lead generation tool if done correctly. Facebook is already part of the Yext Network. This allows any added content, pictures, special offers, etc. to be posted on Facebook as well as all of the other Yext Network listings.
Now Google Business pages are also part of this network and so just like content posted to Facebook, Goggle business page will automatically be updated at the same time. That is one more thing the business owner or account manager can cross off of the many things that need to be done. For me I see this as a faster more comprehensive way to keep Google business pages up to date with highly relevant content. For the consumer browsing Google, Yelp, Four Square want to see something that indicates the business is proud enough of itself to put it out there. Now there is a one stop way to do this through Yext.
Let me just say that the business has to be claimed on Google. For the do- it- yourselfers, you can look up in Google how to get your business listed. I would have hoped that somewhere along the line that someone would have explained this necessary step to you, but I must say that I have come across far too many businesses that have not claimed their business in Google. If you website was built professionally, this service should have been included in the web design service, but given that there are far too many unreliable web designers in our world I would say that if you are not sure if your business has been claimed, just go to www.google.com/mybusiness . Follow the steps and if you do not find your business there follow the steps and ask for a verification post card. I can take up to 4 weeks to get the card. At that point go back to Google and enter the verification code. When you set up your business, make sure that your business name, address, and phone number are EXACTLY as they appear on your website. Google will not allow you to use a PO Box. You will have the opportunity to hide the address I Google if you do not have customers coming to your address. Once you are verified, you can remove the address on your website although I do not encourage you to do this.
So put “Googling your business” on today’s to do list. There are handy Apple and Android apps to help you or your account manager respond to positive and negative feedback. I hope this information has been helpful and has given you another foot up keeping on top of local marketing and bringing you one step closer to the “bottom freezer refrigerator”.
